Kevin has been an active athlete from high school, through college and to the present, playing, captaining and coaching team sports such as football, wrestling, lacrosse and baseball. During the 80s and 90s, Kevin became more involved in family sports like hiking, kayaking, skiing, jogging, and volleyball. Then Kevin's life changed, beginning with a new job and a new start on life. Six months and 35 lbs later (and lighter!) Kevin began training to become a triathlete. The constant grind of triathlon training began to build an unbalanced body and create muscle soreness and fatigue. A friend recommended that he to look into Pilates as a way to lengthen, strengthen and balance his body. His friend said, “If you are going to take a Pilates lesson in this town (New Haven) there is only one place to go…PowerFlowPilates.” Kevin was so impressed in the quality of the mat and equipment lessons and the concept of the Pilates method that he took classes three times per week. When asked about his enthusiasm for Pilates, Kevin always replied, “It’s the single best thing I have ever done for my body.” Wanting to help others realize the benefits of classic Pilates, Kevin became an apprentice and certified instructor at PowerFlow in December 2003. In January 2005, Kevin committed to train for the Ironman Triathlon, a grueling race that includes swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles, and then running 26.2 miles. Incorporating Pilates workouts throughout the training and racing season helped get Kevin to the start line physically prepared in November. “Focusing on my core and my form throughout the race was essential.” Kevin instructs mat and tower classes at PowerFlowPilates, and continues his instructor workshop training. “The more I can learn and pass along to our clients, the greater the rewards for all”. He is available for private & duet sessions, & teaches PowerFlowMat Sculpt Tuesdays at 6:15pm. |

Since her childhood days as a gymnast, Tammy has loved being active and fit. In the 90's she began working as a personal trainer and fitness instructor and earned her certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). She discovered Pilates about four years ago after learning that it could be beneficial in recovering from a low-back injury. She eventually pursued training in Pilates, which ultimately led her to PowerFlowStudio. “I sensed there was something I was missing in my teaching knowledge of Pilates and knew I had found it when I began studying with Melanie in 2006.” says Tammy. In addiiton to other Pilates trainings, Tammy has completed 2 levels of Pilates mat certification & her complete Pilates apparatus certification with The PhysicalMind Institute through Melanie at PowerFlow. Tammy has always found it satisfying to engage with people in personal fitness, whether one on one or in a class setting. “I like to help people and I find that teaching Pilates makes such a difference in how people feel, both inside and out. I also love that Pilates is a technique that promotes ongoing learning and awareness.” In addition to her fitness instruction, Tammy has worked as a hair stylist for over two decades. Says Tammy, “As long as people leave happy and feeling better I know I’ve done my job.” Tammy is available for private & duet sessions, & teaches PowerFlowMAT Essentials Saturdays at 11:15am. |
